B2M presents our exclusive interview with Ericka Williams.
Welcome back to Books2Mention Magazine. It is a pleasure to feature you once again.
B2M: Tell us about your new book The Robbin Hoods.
ERICKA: The Robbin Hoods is about house burglars who stole millions over a 15-year period in Bergen County New Jersey, after being petty thieves. The Robbin Hoods is based on a true-life crime story. It is like the movies American Gangster, Paid in Full, Dead Presidents, and Menace to Society all wrapped up in one.
B2M: What inspired you to write this particular story?
ERICKA: I knew the participants in the story and was close to a number of them. I wrote this story because there were two groups of victims. The people who were robbed and the burglars who ruined their lives when they chose a life of crime.
I know the participants and felt that although they were wrong for the crime, they bought into the greed and materialism of the United States of America.
B2M: What message do you hope readers will get from reading this book?
ERICKA: That there is more than one side to every story and oftentimes we only view people’s actions from the outside, not from the inside out. Whether people are right or wrong or make good or bad choices, it is their mentality that drives them.
B2M: What fuels your passion to write?
ERICKA: The trials and tribulations of life and the reality and possibility of triumph. Healing can only take place in any situation when it is dissected, addressed, and rectified.
B2M: Did the ability to write always come easy to you?
ERICKA: Yes, I always loved to write. It is my true passion.
B2M: What genre of readers do you consider to be your target base?
ERICKA: My books are considered urban fiction however I come from the suburbs so I have a slightly different perspective. I have the experiences of someone who lived in the suburbs but spent my leisure time in New York City. I am college educated and an educator, however, I lived a personal life that was influenced by the streets. However, The Robbin Hoods is for everyone.
This story is for the boys who look up to criminals and fast money-makers, the women who choose to fall in love with criminals, the children who want to continue in their mothers and fathers’ criminal lifestyles, the teachers who do not inspire education in their troubled students, the counselors who service juvenile delinquents, the police and correction officers who do not care about rehabilitation and those who do, the people who flaunt their wealth and never give to charity, and this country which values and promotes materialism and money too much! This story is for people who love true crime stories! Everyone should read “The Robbin Hoods”!
B2M: Who has been the most influential on your literary journey?
ERICKA: Tressa Smallwood, the CEO of Life Changing Books. She published my first and third novels and continues to teach me the business side of the publishing industry.
B2M: What wise words would you like to offer to individuals who are pursuing their talents?
ERICKA: Use your talents but also be a business person. Learn the business. The difference between a talented person and a mogul is the knowledge of the business. In order for you to prosper in a field you must know all angles of that field. You must look at your talent as a means to a better way of life, not just a gift to be used haphazardly or for just for fun. If you don’t take it serious or approach it with tenacity and determination, you will not go hard enough and you will be content with being one of many instead of one who is able to create their own niche.
B2M: What would you like to say to readers who have not had the opportunity to read your work before?
ERICKA: Once you give me a shot, we will be connected for life. I am on a mission to help those who otherwise don’t seek help or even know they need it until they can feel comfortable in reading someone who is successful after being self-destructive as well.
B2M: What can we expect from you next?
ERICKA: Movies, Movies, Movies!
My books will go to film and I will star in and direct some, if not all, of them.
I am in T.Styles and the Cartel’s upcoming film production of “Pitbulls in a Skirt” as Zakayla. My next novel that will be released is the last of the “A Woman Scorned Trilogy” titled: A Woman Scorned 3-Déjà vu…COMING SOON!!!
B2M: Ericka we encourage you to continue writing books that offer great stories with interesting characters. We look forward to hearing more from you.
